RISE Forum Director and Professor of Practice
Karl Schmidt develops and teaches graduate sustainability courses for Villanova’s College of Engineering and the School of Business’ MBA Program. He also serves as the Director of the RISE Forum, which helps to advance member companies’ sustainability efforts through applied research and graduate student team projects. Prior to joining Villanova, Schmidt was an executive at Johnson & Johnson for 28 years. He has successfully leveraged his executive experience in environmental affairs, process excellence and global supply chain management to inform the Sustainable Engineering Graduate Program’s curricular offerings. Throughout his career, Schmidt maintained a high level of professional involvement in organizations including the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the International Environmental Forum for the World Environment Center. Schmidt has a BS in Civil Engineering and MS in Water Resources Engineering from Villanova. He is a former Chair of the Dean’s Engineering Advisory Board at Villanova, a former member of the Villanova School of Business’ Analytics Council and former Chair of the Conference Board’s Quality Council. He volunteers his time and is a Board Member at Habitat for Humanity, Bucks County.
